Aberdeen Beefs Up For Growth

12/22/2006

THE IDEA IS THIS: If we encourage a proposed beef processing plant to be built just south of Aberdeen, we’ll experience economic growth. Sounds like a great idea and it could work. When you consider how silly this state has been in the last hundred years by sending all its beef out of the state for processing, this plan actually makes logical sense. Of course locals are making a stink about the potential smell the plant will emit (purely speculation at this point) and want to sue the county for allowing the builders to utilize TIF funds (Google it) to help build the plant. Then there’s the outright racist boobs who are afraid of ethnic workers moving into our area.

We say, why the hell not! We are an agricultural city, even though we fail to believe it. A technological hub we are not. An agricultural hub we are. Agriculture is a core industry of our area and expanding the area’s economy by utilizing all locally produced farm products makes sense.

First of all...those t-shirts are unbelievable. I am... yes, I am stunned. (The "Mexican" shirt makes me laugh out loud.)

I am in favor of this plant (and especially the infusion of new Aberdeen citizens), but one thing to guard against is labeling anyone who raises logistical concerns about integrating a good many new students coming from immigrant families into the Aberdeen school system as a racist.

Nice work on the t-shirts, though. I love beef rendering as well. Build that economic base, Aberdeen!!

ya, i agree with Sporty04...i hate to keep seeing Aberdeen always fight whatever is coming to town or for change i think it is; i thought we wanted to grow, prosper, attract new people, well thats how we would do it, im all for that, and yes the wages thing should be a thing to think about too.

Let's let Aberdeen grow. All the old money people want to stop our growth. Let's bring in the beef plant. Make the companies that are here pay living wages to thier employees. I'm all for more jobs for Aberdeen.
