Aberdeen Icon Film Project

YOU’VE MADE A MOVIE IN 48 HOURS FOR NOTHING. NOW YOU GET 48 DAYS TO MAKE A MOVIE AND $400!
Enter your script by February 2, 2007.

Introducing the A-List Magazine Aberdeen Icon Film Project. The contest where you make a movie about the identifying icons of Aberdeen.

What are the icons you use to describe Aberdeen to people? What are some of the best things our town has to offer our citizens and visitors? What do we have here that is truly unique? In this situation, an icon can be a thing, a person, a season, a group, a mindset, or a plan; any thing that is present in the community that can be used to describe it is an icon. Think about diversity, winter recreation, colleges, hangouts, hobbies, or architecture. Think about how you could capture, describe and present an icon on film.

Explore your icon in the form of a script that you would ideally produce as a short film. Present your icon, then write about how you would interpret it to others. It must be well thought out. Even documentaries have detailed scripts to help describe how and what is being explored, and includes locations, types of shots, filmic style, interviews as well as intended results.

Submit your script to the A-List office, of those submitted, five scripts will be selected. There is no cost to enter your script. Winners will by notified by February 9.

If your script is selected, you will have 48 days to produce your film. Films must be submitted by Friday, March 30. At that point, $400 will be awarded to each submitted film.

All movies will be posted here on alistaberdeen.com. Films will remain there to be used as a means of presenting a positive image of our community.

This is a community-image boosting program. Potentially negative subject matter will only be considered if efforts are underway to reverse the trend (example: downtown Aberdeen is not a cultural hot spot, but there are some efforts underway to change that).

Films can vary in length but should be longer than 2 minutes and not exceed 10 minutes. Exceptions may apply.

Artistic style is strongly encouraged. This is an art project. Music must be original.

This contest was an excellent idea. It gives local film-makers real world experience.
