The Aberdeen Area Disc Golf Association (AADGA) is a progressive organization established in 1993. Shortly after its inception, AADGA designed and constructed the Kuhnert Disc Golf Course located at the Kuhnert Arboretum. AADGA "The Prairie Dogs" hosted the South Dakota State Championships the first four years of its inception, 1994 through 1997. The State Championships were held from 1998 through 2004 in Rapid City and Spearfish before returning to Aberdeen in 2005 and 2006. AADGA began work on the course at Richmond Lake in the fall of 1997. Through local private and business sponsors. Money for equipment was raised and baskets were installed in 1998. Tee signs and permanent concrete tee pads were installed in 2004. Richmond Lake Disc Golf Course is by far the most challenging and sporting Disc Golf courses in the state.

AADGA has been instrumental in the designing and installation of nine courses in South Dakota. Bringing the total to 29 courses in the state as of 2006. Design plans for a new 18 hole course in Baird Park are under way. A sponsorship drive to raise funds to replace worn out equipment at Kuhnert Disc Golf Course has been started. AADGA has held many seminars, workshops and demonstrations for area schools, scouts, individuals and organizations since 1993. Additionally AADGA has been instrumental in the promotion of Disc Sports across the state. Many have enjoyed events such as the annual "Ice Bowl" , "World's Biggest" and league play statewide due to AADGA's persistence.

AADGA is dedicated to maintain the programs that we have already employed as well as develop new opportunities for the community.

As a non profit organization we raise funds by hosting tournaments, league play, and donations. Each tournament costs an average of $300 to $500 to host. Entry fees help to offset expenses and sometimes make a little extra for the club. A typical tournament will attract 25 or more players. A PDGA sanctioned tournament will attract 50-100 players. These tournaments cost $1200 To $1500 to host. Attracting big name pros to play here is one of AADGA'S near future goals.

South Dakota has a number of players playing at the professional level. As well as many bright young stars on their way up!

The South Dakota State Disc Golf Championships will be held at Richmond Lake Disc Golf Course September 15-17. There will be divisions for all skill levels. We have put together an awesome prize package for the top finishers in all of the amatuer divisions. Come out and watch the top players battle for bragging rights to being the best in South Dakota!

Whether you want to play at a professional or recreational level of play, disc golf may be right for you. AADGA extends an invitation to bring your group or yourselves out for a fun instructional round of disc golf !!

The best thing about playing disc golf is anyone can do it. You can be big, small, young, or old and still play the sport. It is a way to exercise and have fun. I also like the fact that disc golf is very inexpensive. Thank you for bringing us such a wonderful and beautiful course to play on!
