AN OLD ADAGE says that if the parking lot is full, the place must be pretty good. Well the new YMCA or Northeast Regional Health and Fitness Center is a smashing success. Who cares what it’s called, it was built for the YMCA and that’s what it will be forever known as (see the big Y on the building). Built with loads of private donations and lots of public support, this dandy new structure was built for a cool $12.6 million.
Negativity abounded during the fundraising period about higher membership rates for the Y. YMCA Membership increased by 50% (1200 new members) when this baby opened. Meaning: Aberdonians will pay for good, quality resources and products. New, great things cost more so be sure and renew your Y membership, or join for the first time. But come early because you probably won’t find a parking place. | | Photo by Troy McQuillen
